Jennings Ferry Campground near Eutaw, Alabama, was exactly the peaceful retreat we needed after leaving the constant noise of our previous stay near Chattanooga. Nestled along the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers, this U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground welcomed us with beautifully maintained grounds, spacious sites, and the kind of quiet that reminds you why you chose the RV lifestyle in the first place. Although we only stayed one night, we left wishing we had planned several more. At just $14 per night with our America the Beautiful Pass, it also proved that some of the best camping experiences don't have to come with a high price tag.

There were very few campers during our stay, which only added to the peaceful atmosphere of this beautiful campground. We stayed in Site 40, a spacious pull-through that was level and incredibly easy to set up on. It was more than long enough to accommodate Big Bertha and our truck, with plenty of extra room to spare. Had the weather cooperated, we would have had ample space to open our patio and enjoy the outdoors.
The campground hosts were friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. One of the volunteers even called us on the day of our arrival to let us know our site was ready and that we were welcome to check in before the official 4:00 p.m. check-in time. Throughout the campground, it was obvious the volunteer hosts take great pride in keeping the grounds clean, well-maintained, and inviting.

Sometimes the most memorable campgrounds aren't the ones with endless amenities—they're the ones that give you exactly what you need. After weeks of traffic, noise, and busy campgrounds, Jennings Ferry offered us something we hadn't realized we were missing: peace and quiet. It was one of those places where you immediately feel yourself slow down, and by the time we pulled out the next morning, we were already talking about coming back for a longer stay. Next time, we plan to give ourselves enough time to truly enjoy everything this beautiful Corps of Engineers campground has to offer.

While Jennings Ferry feels wonderfully secluded, you won't be completely isolated. The town of Eutaw is about 10 minutes away, where you'll find a Piggly Wiggly for groceries, Dollar General, convenience stores, fuel, and a handful of local restaurants if you need supplies during a longer stay.
The real attraction, however, is the campground itself. Situated between the Black Warrior River and Clear Creek, Jennings Ferry is an excellent destination for fishing, boating, kayaking, wildlife watching, and simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The campground also features a half-mile nature trail that follows the water's edge, making it easy to stretch your legs without ever leaving the park.
Best For: RVers looking to slow down and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. Jennings Ferry is an excellent choice for couples, retirees, anglers, kayakers, and anyone who appreciates spacious sites, beautiful surroundings, and a relaxing atmosphere. It's also a perfect overnight stop for travelers passing through the area, though we think it's even better if you can stay a few days and truly enjoy everything the campground has to offer.

Not every campground is a destination in itself—sometimes it's simply the perfect place to park for a couple of nights while you explore the surrounding area. That was the case with Currahee RV Park & Campground in Toccoa, Georgia. We stayed here for two nights while visiting the nearby military museum and taking a scenic drive over to Helen, Georgia. This is a simple, no-frills campground without resort-style amenities, operating on an honor-system, cash-only basis with no on-site attendant. While it may not offer many extras, it provided a convenient and quiet home base for our adventures in northeast Georgia.

Several sites appeared to be occupied by long-term residents, and a few could have benefited from a little more upkeep. Our site was level and easy to set up on, although one corner of the concrete pad was damaged. There was no on-site staff during our stay, with all communication handled by phone/text, but at just $35 per night, it was an affordable option.

Memorable Moments & Insights
One of the highlights of our stay was visiting the nearby Currahee Military Museum, a place well worth adding to your itinerary if you're interested in military history. We also made the short drive to Toccoa Falls, a breathtaking 186-foot waterfall located on the campus of Toccoa Falls College, making it one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi and a beautiful stop while exploring the area.

Currahee Mountain, which we drove to the top of, is famous for its hiking trails and its role in training the U.S. Army paratroopers of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment during World War II. If you've ever watched the Band of Brothers miniseries, you've probably heard the phrase, "Three miles up, three miles down." That famous run took place right here on Currahee Mountain.
Grocery stores and restaurants can be found only 10-15 minutes away.
Best For: RVers looking for a quiet, affordable campground with a convenient location for exploring Toccoa and the surrounding North Georgia mountains. It's an excellent choice for history buffs visiting the Currahee Military Museum and Currahee Mountain, as well as travelers wanting to see Toccoa Falls or take a day trip to Helen. If you're looking for resort-style amenities, this may not be the campground for you—but if you want a peaceful place to park while exploring the area, Currahee RV Park fits the bill nicely.
We recently stayed at Hills Landing & RV Park and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. This is a beautiful campground with something to offer every type of camper. The park features waterfront sites, water-view sites, and sites located in the older section of the campground, giving guests several options depending on their preferences and budget.
One of our favorite surprises was the camp store. Not only does it have the essentials you might need during your stay, but it also serves some of the best ice cream we've had in a campground store. We also tried the Hunt Brothers Pizza, and it was surprisingly good—perfect for an easy meal after a day of relaxing by the water.
The campground offers laundry facilities, a bathhouse, and a well-stocked general store, making longer stays comfortable and convenient. The grounds are well maintained, and the peaceful waterfront setting makes it easy to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the area.
Overall, this was a wonderful stay, and Hills Landing is definitely a campground we would return to in the future. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway near the water in South Carolina, this park is worth considering.

One thing we appreciated about Hill's Landing was how well the campground was maintained. While there are long-term residents throughout the park, the sites were clean and cared for. We stayed on one of the level waterfront sites, and being able to back the RV right up to the water made it a place we looked forward to coming back to after each day's adventures.

One of the best things about staying at Hill's Landing is its location. Historic Charleston is only about an hour to an hour and a half away, making it an easy day trip filled with history, shopping, and incredible dining. As with any destination, we recommend checking recent restaurant reviews before deciding where to eat, as our experience at one nearby restaurant was unfortunately disappointing.

If you're eligible to stay on military installations, Fort Eustis Recreation Park is one of those hidden gems that's easy to overlook. We spent several days here while exploring the surrounding area, and found it to be a quiet, convenient home base. Fort Eustis is a basic military campground that could benefit from some general maintenance, particularly around the grounds and site leveling. While the staff was friendly, we weren't given much guidance when parking and were simply told to "decide which way is better for you." At just $30 per night, however, we felt the campground offered fair value for an overnight or short stay.

Memorable Moments & Insights
One of the highlights of our stay was taking a drive toward Virginia Beach across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Although we decided not to continue after seeing the toll for our dually truck, the trip itself was memorable—from driving through the underwater tunnels to emerging back onto the bridge with sweeping views of the bay, massive cargo ships, and even a solitary house sitting in the middle of the water.
One thing to be aware of is that the pull-through sites are a little different than most campgrounds. The water hookup is located on one side of the site, while the sewer and electric are on the opposite side, so you'll want to think about which direction you pull in before setting up. That's why we were told to choose whichever way worked best for our RV.
