It's been a little quiet around here lately, so I thought it was time for a quick update on where we've been and where we're headed.
After wrapping up our stay in North Georgia, we were supposed to be making our way to Alabama. As RV life sometimes reminds us, plans don't always go as expected. Because of circumstances beyond our control, we found ourselves back at Hawkins Pointe RV Park—a place we honestly didn't expect to see again.
Thankfully, that stay is almost over, and we're getting ready to hit the road once more. During the wait I've been spending some time baking and recently baked up a sourdough boule. I encourage you to use your oven for anything you would have baked in a traditional home oven. Leave a comment on what you bake in your oven.
Our next stop is Louisiana, but we'll be taking our time getting there with an overnight stop in Alabama and a couple of nights at a Harvest Hosts location in Mississippi. While we're there, we're hoping to spend a day exploring Laurel, Mississippi, the hometown of Erin and Ben Napier from HGTV's Home Town. It's a place I've wanted to visit for quite a while.
What I'm looking forward to most, though, is spending time with family. One of our grandsons has a birthday coming up, and it'll be nice to slow down for a few days and enjoy making some memories together.
After Louisiana, we'll head back toward Georgia so we can leave Big Bertha at Three Way Campers for the repairs she's been patiently waiting on. Those broken windows from our Washington, D.C. trip are finally getting replaced. We've been told the repairs should take about a week, but if you've owned an RV for any length of time, you know that "about a week" can sometimes have a very different meaning. 🤞
While Big Bertha is in the shop, we'll be staying with my mom before getting back on the road.
After that...the adventure really begins.
The plan is to start making our way north before turning west, eventually picking up I-80 as we continue exploring parts of the country we've never seen before. We haven't made any reservations yet because, honestly, we're waiting to see when we actually get our home back. Sometimes the best travel plans are the ones that leave room for a little flexibility.
So now I need your help!
If you have a favorite route north out of Georgia to connect with I-80—or any must-see stops along the way—we'd love to hear your recommendations. Some of our favorite places have come from suggestions made by fellow travelers.

Not every campground is a destination in itself—sometimes it’s simply the perfect place to park for a couple of nights while you explore the surrounding area. That was the case with Currahee RV Park & Campground in Toccoa, Georgia.
We stayed here for two nights while visiting the nearby military museum and taking a scenic drive over to Helen, Georgia. This is a simple, no-frills campground without resort-style amenities, operating on an honor-system, cash-only basis with no on-site attendant.
While it may not offer many extras, it provided a convenient and quiet home base for our adventures in northeast Georgia.

Ratings are based on our personal stay and what we observed. Some sites appeared to be long-term residents and could be cleaned up. Our site was level, but did have broken concrete on corner. No staff was present, only communication was via email (which is why I done 1/5 for staff & service). Price was only $35/night. The value was in the location to what we were there to do.

The Currahee Military Museum is nearby as well as the tallest waterfall this side of the Mississippi coming in at 186 feet and can only be accessed through the University of Toccoa Falls.
Best part of this stay was that we were near what we went to see. Note that big rigs might have a tight departure as it was tight as we rounded out and hard to leave site with neighbor vehicles and trailers parked at or near roadway.
The area of Toccoa is surrounded by the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and borders South Carolina.
The Currahee Military Museum houses the restored historic train depot and honors the 18,000 WWII paratroopers who trained at Camp Toccoa.
The Currahee Mountain, which we drove to the top of is famous for hiking and historical paratrooper training. If you ever watched the movie, Band of Brothers, you would have heard, “3 Miles Up, 3 Miles Down.” This is the mountain that movie was based on.
Grocery stores and restaurants can be found only 10-15 minutes away.

We recently stayed at Hills Landing RV Park and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. This is a beautiful campground with something tooffer every type of camper. The park features waterfront sites, water-view sites, and sites located in the older section of thecampground, giving guests several options depending on their preferences and budget.
One of our favorite surprises was the camp store. Not only does it have the essentials you might need during yourstay, but it also serves some of the best ice cream we’ve had in a campground store. We also tried the Hunt BrothersPizza, and it was surprisingly good—perfect for an easy meal after a day of relaxing by the water.
The campground offers laundry facilities, a bathhouse, and a well-stocked general store, making longer stayscomfortable and convenient. The grounds are well maintained, and the peaceful waterfront setting makes it easy tounwind and enjoy the beauty of the area.
Overall, this was a wonderful stay, and Hills Landing is definitely a campground we would return to in the future. Ifyou’re looking for a relaxing getaway near the water in South Carolina, this park is worth considering.

PERSONAL NOTES & EXPERIENCES
Charleston is only an 1 – 1 1/2 hours away. Sometimes the most memorable restaurants might not be memorable in a good way, bewareof Mac Daddy’s Restaurant located 5 minutes away.
Just a short drive away, you’ll find WalMart, Publix and a plethora of restaurants. You can also find local produce at the CrossFresh Farmers Market that operates seasonally with fresh vegetables, fruit and baked goods.
The RV Park is perfectly positioned on the Diversion Canal between Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie. You can explore theEutaw Springs Battlefield, paddle the Berkeley Blueways, or bike/hike the Palmetto Trail.

If you’re eligible to stay on military installations, Fort Eustis Recreation Park is one of those hidden gems that’s easy to overlook. We spent several days here while exploring the surrounding area, and found it to be a quiet, convenient home base.
With only 15 full-hookup sites, it’s a small campground that offers a peaceful stay without the crowds. In this review, we’ll share what we liked, what to expect, and whether we’d stay here again.
Located on the banks of Lake Eustis, the site includes a 1-mile hiking trail, a boat ramp, and is open year-round.

Ratings are based on our personal stay and what we observed. The grounds could use some sprucing up as well as the sites need to be leveled. The staff didn’t offer much help in getting to site as we were told, “decide which way is better for you.” Price was only $30, which was good for what we got.

PERSONAL NOTES & EXPERIENCES
We drove to Virginia Beach and done some sight-seeing along the way. This was mainly an overnight sight we took advantage of for 2 nights. We took advantage of the Commissary and stocked up on meats.
We had a visitor our first night just a few feet from our camper.
There are tight roads inside the campgrounds, which makes it harder for big rigs to get through. Must know which side you want your utilities hooked up on and which ones to run under the camper as the sewer and electric are on one side and the water is on the other.
The PX and Commissary are less than a mile from the campsites. The PX includes several fast food restaurants.
Other than doing what we needed on base, we didn’t explore much in the area. We did drive to Virginia Beach.
